DESIGNER & CONSULTANT
Narrow Gate Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on mentoring and teaching young men for the purpose of positively transforming their lives. During my 2 years with them, I acted as an in-house visual designer while also consulting on their marketing efforts.
Narrow Gate students are young men, 18-25, that are removed them for their day to day situations and immersed into an 8-month program that provides a space to be nurtured, taught and encouraged to discover their core fundamental vision and purpose in life. As NGF continued to grow, they realized the need for a more cohesive brand message and materials to increase awareness and support of their program.
Alongside Narrow Gate's media and marketing directors, we met weekly to ideate around future & current needs. They knew their market well because it consisted heavily of alumni and family of past graduates. They had a confident understanding of their content, but their challenge was figuring out how to bring in new, unrelated students and donors.
- The most common avenues for people to discover the program.
- Specific people, companies and groups to advertise and promote with.
- Conferences to schedule speaking events for Narrow Gate founders.
- Local partnerships
- The Narrow Gate Foundation includes 3 separately functioning organizations.
- All 3 are related, but serve different purposes.
- Telling this story to prospective donors, students or partners can sometimes get confusing.
As we continued to learn more about how to grow the program and increase awareness of Narrow Gate, we recognized the need for clarity. My responsibilities were majorly focused on figuring out how to tell the story in a clear and compelling way.

The Narrow Gate Foundation includes 3 separately functioning organizations. All 3 are related, but serve different purposes. Telling this story to prospective donors, students or partners could sometimes get confusing.
Their desire was to have a product that could tell the story of the foundation as a whole, while still highlighting the 3 organizations and allowing them to stand alone with their own stories.
I designed a custom NGF booklet that told the story of the foundation, while holding 4 individual story cards that represented each independent organization.
These booklets were given to any and everyone that had an interest in NGF. They were used at conferences, events, meetings, presentations, etc.
Each inserted card shared the story, mission and purpose of each organization and was complemented by related imagery.
When a student applied and got accepted into the program, they would receive a "Student Acceptance Packet". This packet used to be a 30 page Word document.
I designed a more engaging and fun way to communicate this information. I added textures that represented the outdoor ruggedness of the program, and made it interactive by including checklists and fill in the blank areas to help students plan their 8 month journey.
These booklets were printed and also distributed online.
